Heating Pad/Mat
« on: March 10, 2019, 04:02:14 pm »
I am trying to create a heating mat or pad. My requirements are 110V/220V, 140/150 degrees F, and the largest would be about 36"x40" and the smallest about 24" x 24". Can be rectangular if needed, cut to a specific shape is nice. I have been looking at things like under floor heating, and carbon fiber. The problem is with carbon fiber is the resistance isn't less than 15/20 AMPs. Carbon fiber cord works but winding a cord up and down and providing consistent heat is next to impossible. Any ideas? TIA!

Use the bed heaters from 3D printer, you'd have to use more than one to get that area but the same sites that sell the 3D printer bed heaters will possibly have one's of the size you're looking for. A little bit of Googling based on what you find from 3D printer bed heater sellers should get you almost exactly what you want.

Infrared heaters (several) aimed at what you want to heat might work better. Glass is opaque to IR so you should get even heating.

I think a sick solution would be to put heating strips on copper plate thats soldered to copper mesh and coated with thermally conductive flexible polymer.

With a insulator on top

Pu foam cut into strips like plate mail armor

Mc master sells heating strips that are adhesive backed. They are thick nichrome foil like a maze embedded in rubber. Would be a heavy skirt and press into stuff good

You cannot set the temperature except by providing more than enough power and a thermostat.

I have built countless bed electric blankets / pads. All you need is nichrome wire and a sewing machine and you can make the size and shape you choose.  I did not provide any thermostat and I made them powerful so I could get into a toasty bed. Spread out they worked fine but one day it was crumpled in a corner under the blankets and it started a fire.

The problem is with carbon fiber is the resistance isn't less than 15/20 AMPs.
I do not understand what this means. Why don't you use nichrome wire which is the standard for these things?
All my posts are made with 100% recycled electrons and bare traces of grey matter.

Look up Keenovo heaters, they have both stores on Ebay and Aliexpress, and sells tons of different size heaters.

Go down the path of Drum heaters. Most of the big guys in Element or Temperature control will be able to make you a custom one. In particular the silicone drum heaters would suit your glass application due to the flex.

Omega not for any reason other than their content is accurate https://omega.com/subsection/drum-heaters-tank-heaters.html
