Heavy Duty Connector Power + Signal
« on: January 07, 2014, 04:01:59 pm »
Does anyone know a connector system for automotive use / light trucks ("12V") with at least IP68 and vibration resistant interlock? I need power (5-10A) and a differential CAN signal (100/120Ohm). Is there a system which combines power and signals or is it bether to use separate conectors and cables for signal and power?

Maybe the Superseal Series from AMP, the Standard-Buccaneer Series from Bulgin
or very rugged the M Series from Lemo?
With two seperate connectors you can combine the Buccaneer 400 with their Mini Series.

I use loads of Harting industrial connectors. Just making some looms and connectors up currently to replace some that have been in a very heavy industrial application since the 70's and are only being replaced as part of scheduled maintenance.

The J1939 connector comes to mind.  Already carries a few amps of power and CAN bus signalling for the J1939 bus.  Its kind of big, but should be available.

Thanks. J1939 semms nice. A bit bulky and hard to obtain, but robust.
The Buccaneer-Series is also worth a try because there are PCB and panel mounting connectors available.
Thanks again!
