I have a good friend that needs some help. He is a very seasoned engineer and asked me some time ago to help get a Faxitron DX-50 system running, He picked up this thing from eBay and plans to put his own imager in it but needs to get past the proprietary interlock circuit to get the X-Ray tube to fire. Without a signal from the PC that it is supposed to be connected to, it remains in standby. We have no manual and it is virtually impossible to obtain one without the FDA showing up at the door. This is what he has written me regarding his efforts in obtaining a manual or documentation so we can enable this beast
OK.
The nice folks pointed out that the Faxitron is a regulated device and would need testing and licensing before use. They have records of the serial numbers and where the device is "supposed to be." And it was a hospital in Kentucky, not a private citizen on the west coast.
They are a business and have the purpose of returning a profit to the shareholders. Providing information to an unlicensed user would generate precious little revenue and create all sorts of regulatory and legal grief even if I did not injure myself.
The lower connector is for the archaic camera module, now removed. The DB-9 is an interlock / handshake for the computer to control / interlock the operation of the x-ray source.
Can anyone here provide some guidance or help in getting us past the interlock? My friend will gladly pay if someone has a manual or knows someone in the biz? :-//
