USB board-to-board connection
« on: January 31, 2017, 07:36:52 pm »
Hi

As per the title. I want to route USB 2 to a daughterboard (stacked not edge). Any suggestions on connectors? I noticed that PC motherboard connection cables use something pretty un-exotic like a Harwin M20 connector or somesuch - are they considered "close enough", or does the relatively short signal path through the connector not really degrade the signal too much?

Thanks!

Most connectors can be used for this by adjusting the signal and ground pin arrangement to preserve the differential and common mode impedance through the connector.  In practice this will require 2 signal pins and 2 ground or power pins in a single in-line connector or a similar arrangement in a dual in-line connector.  USB 2 is not that fast so the requirements are not exacting.
