Opto isolator crossreference?
« on: August 02, 2018, 09:21:52 pm »
Need to replace Sharp PC3Q67Q quad-pack (16-pin SOIC). This part is obsolete:

http://www.allxref.com/pdf/sharp/pc3q67q.pdf

I've searched for an on-line cross-reference to find an equivalent. No joy. (Any pin-count will do: only one quadrant of this package is dead; I could piggy-back--dead-bug-style--a 4-pin pack if needed.)

The unique(?) think about this part is the input LED has a If of 50mA-1A. I don't recall seeing that high a current for LEDs, although I'm no design engineer...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Looks like you are misreading the spec. sheet. You are assuming that absolute max values would be used in normal operation.

The LED input currents in common use would be 5-15mA, depending on the output current and voltages being controlled. The higher the current in the output, the higher the current required for the LED, but low power dissipation limits do not allow conditons where  sustained high currents are applied to the LED input or allowed to flow in the transistor output.

What's neat is the the pinout of the chip is such that it would alow you to just lay a single 4-pin optocouplers over the existing bad opto and cutting the old ic's pins.

Think FOD817 type optocoupler.
