help IDing chip - collmer RDF005 or 2SF005 - as pictured
« on: October 28, 2024, 12:11:19 am »
hi, new here.  need help to ID this damaged/overheated chip.  i believe the mfg symbol "C" is for collmer semiconductor from my current research.  cannot find the chip listed anywhere, not sure of the PNs due to chip condition.  looks like RDF005 or 2SF005 or some combination thereof.  I believe the pcb was made c1995.  can anyone ID this chip, PN, and what it does, and/or replacement options?  Note the + and (-) imprints on top of chip, 4 pcb connections.  this one is cracked and overheated.  any assistance would be much appreciated.  pictures attached.  thank you.  ev1

The datasheet is the first thing that comes up in a google search.

second one is almost gone the marking, but I think it is the same RDF005.

That could be the part, those markings are basically always a bridge rectifer of some sort.

It's a bridge rectifier and commonly a "DFM" package so DF005 or DF01 or DF02 etc. is easy to find. Just confirm what voltage it usually sees.

If it's getting hot, best to find the overload and fix that. They don't take much abuse.

thank you.  agreed.  i have to find the overload.  unfortunately that diagnosis is a above my abilities.  great at physical issues, making and repairing pcbs and such, but the actual engineering is beyond me.  but thank you again, one step closer we are (yoda).  ev1
