5A quasi darlington driven by bq24450
« on: October 10, 2014, 01:14:18 pm »
hello,

I'm designing currently bq24450 for 12V Ah car yellow Optima battery.
Charging current 5A, which basically mandates quasi darlington driver.

Since this configuration uses NPN and PNP transistor and NPN should handle 5A I've chosen MJE2955T for NPN and since Ib for this NPN is 6A I was going to use MJE3099T as complementary pair.

Will this be correctly working with BQ2455 driving those?
I see that it is capable of putting 80mA into base of PNP (MJE3099T)
On this PNP again base current is 6A, which I have no idea whether is required. If it is, I think I'll need PNP darlington driving MJE2955T, but I'm not sure on this.

Is it possible to replace quasi-darlington with FET? How will driver part of the circuit change?
