Video converter, parallel RGB to MIPI.

Has anyone built an RGB parallel to MIPI video converter, any recommendation of a chip for this task?

I have in design a video player using a microcontroller. At first I was going to use an H7 from ST, but due to the shortage of components, it is totally sold out, although in the end I got 100 pieces in LQFP208, for certain designs I need BGA for the available space.

So, I'm thinking of using an RT1064 micro that I have in quantity with BGA package and it has parallel RGB video output, but I would need to convert that output to MIPI to be able to use some screens.

I was looking for chips that convert from RGB to MIPI and I only found one from Toshiba in BGA format, with a somewhat fine pitch (0.65), but with few balls and most of them in two rows. I think I could give it a try, unless there is another chip that I don't know about and that is easier to solder (a 0.8mm pitch BGA or an LQFP).

I’m not sure but I think Lattice semiconductor has IP available for their FPGAs, does mean another programmable device though.

The issue is that MIPI is designed to be used in mobile devices. So chips that work with MIPI tend to come in tiny BGA packages so that they fit into phones and smartwatches and whatnot.

As Boscoe said, FPGAs can be used to convert to/from MIPI. Lattice has some with IO specifically designed for MIPI levels, such as the MachXO2 family, or the family specifically for video processing. It tends to be a pretty costly solution, but they are available to buy and can get them in pretty friendly packages.
