| How does the KSGER T12 station know which tip is inserted |
| (1/1) |
| Alex Eisenhut:
I was surprised to see ERROR flashing on my screen and I realized the thing needs to have tips enabled by model. I find this fascinating. How does it know which is which? Is there a heat resistant single wire EEPROM in there somewhere? Does it sense temperature digitally as well to get the most out of that single contact? |

No eeprom inside the tip, Probably a table on firmware, with some parameters |

It doesn't. You have to select tip manually (press the knob and turn it right). The reson you got ERROR message is most likely that every T12 tip i had required some "burn-in" time to start working. There is also no any reliable value you could measure to implement tip type recognition, I'm affraid. |

Yeah you're right I must have fooled myself. I just tried enabling and disabling tips and now it makes no difference. Very odd that such a menu exists, maybe it's for a more advanced tip type. I also noticed what you say now, every new tip either shows error or has erratic temperature readings while it warms up the first time. :-// Oh well, still a good station IMO. |
