How to create a capacitive touch pad in Kicad?
« on: August 30, 2020, 03:11:17 pm »
I am trying to create a touch pad for use with the CAP1203 IC. How do I create a rectangular touch pad in Kicad?
Something like this:

Thanks

Create a new footprint and draw this as a pin. There are plenty of options for the pin shape in Kicad.

Thanks....I will try doing it.

Thank you. I cannot use a rectangle, as you can see, the shape is not closed.

Edit: I tried but I am not able to create a shape like the one in the image. I can only create a rounded rectangle footprint.

but your drawing is just a rounded rectangle, it just shows the trace connecting to it

I guess no. This is a Sparkfun breakout board in a different shape. You can see that the shapes do not complete.

Of course those shapes "do complete" (are closed). The lines going out of them are traces added after the shape has been placed on the board in order to connect them to the connector/header pins.

I think you should have a look at the Kicad tutorials that show how the PCB layout actually works ...
