A quick project I knocked up.
Apologies for the audio - might have been overdriving the camera.
The sensor is a strobe trigger transformer from Jaycar (suggested by an article in Silicon Chip - there was a kit but apparently discontinued)

Really interesting, guess hearing aid users must quickly learn to disable inductive pickup when on trains! How far away can you pick up overhead power distribution cables?

Pretty much everywhere you go there's hum from power lines and in the street. Would be interesting to take it outside the suburbs.
I think that proper hearing aids have AGC. Also I think my unit may have slightly excessive gain.
