| Interfacing Sony's IMX Sensor |

Hi There, I would like to interface a Sony sensor directly and the goal is to get an image through an Ethernet connection. The setup is to take long exposure still images in low light, like astrography. There is no needs of high-speed onboard processing or compression. Despite having done quite a bit of research, informations are sparse, to say the least. From the sensor datasheet itself, it seems doable to directly control it from a powerful 32bit uC (some of the microchip comes with integrated 32MB of ram) and quite a bit of firmware. Also some Chinese made USB cameras using IMX sensors seem to have very little electronic while others seem to be heavily packed, I guess all depending on resolution and framerate required. Is there anyone had to experience with sony's sensor, does sony has some specific chipset that can be used (haven't found anything so far), DIY projects of some sort.. ? Any pointers to any useful resources would be greatly appreciated! |

But, supply will be your biggest challenge as trying to buy one offs or low quantities will usually end up at a higher unit price than a fully built camera with the same chip. |

Cost isn't an issue even if it is above having a complete camera (although standard IMX290 sells for about 15$), we are looking at a very specific sensor from Sony which is the IMX290LQR. |

Well yes, but the question isn't really about the sensor itself, but the possible implementations. Notably specific control chipset and overall experience and software stack.... |
