IR sensor for black color

(1/1)

fedimakni:
Hello,

I am currently using the SI1151 as an IR sensor to detect human presence. While testing i found that we could not detect people with black clothes while everything is fine with other color.
Datasheet: https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/data-sheets/si115x-datasheet.pdf

I know that black color absorb light but is there any solution so we could fix this and be able to detect any people enter the field of detection of the sensor?

I hope to get a feedback from you and thank you in advance

Benta:
You're using the wrong type of sensor. You might as well use a green LED and a photodiode.

Near-visible IR (840...970 nm) will only give you an optical detection. There's a reason that alarm systems use PIR detectors that sense heat radiation at a wavelength of >10 um.

And there's a reason why thermal imaging is so expensive.

fedimakni:
I think you are speaking about different topic, I am just using the sensor to detect human presence just as simple as that.
The problem that people wearing black clothes can't be detected with high accuracy while other people with other clothes color are easy to detect

Kasper:
Have you looked at PIR? Why does it not fit your application?
