Edit: I don't want to gatekeep and tell you what to do and what not to do. But just for some context, your 5kV 40uF cap holds 500J fully charged, roughly the same energy as a 9mm bullet exiting a barrel (

).
If that kind of energy gets released at the wrong place at the wrong time within your circuit due to say faulty wiring, are you really prepared for that kind of bang and surprise?
