ISO 13849-1; Category 2 architecture

hi,

in the norm for category 2 ( https://machinerysafety101.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Cat-2-Block-Diagram.jpg ) the test equipment (TE) is drawn as a seperate function block with a seperate output.

Can one single core safety microcontroller do the normal output and the monitoring or is it required that the monitoring is done by an external controller?
