It could be a great project box.
« on: November 23, 2013, 06:54:17 am »
Some time ago I bought a 2.5" USB to SATA Enclosure SIIG brand, and I just discovered that it can be a great project box!

It is a beatufil anodized aluminum, and it has a port for USB and LED already on it.

I bought it for about 16 dollars, so it is not that expensive.

David.

Yes, but what can you fit in a box like this? You have to use low profile components, majority of classic electrolytic capacitors won't fit, you have to conceal LED and USB connector if you don't use them or make a bigger hole to fit some other type of connector, there is a limited number of connectors that will fit the height, there is no reasonable way to fix the circuit board inside...
Plus you can buy anodised aluminium project boxes on ebay for the third of the price you paid for it. I also considered using this type of enclosures for such purposes but soon changed my mind.
