Set of four TL866II-Plus programmer stopped working
« on: February 17, 2024, 10:44:43 am »
I have a set of four TL866II-Plus programmers running off my Linux Mint pc and for several years everything has been working okay. Just tonight they have all stopped working. The programming software was bugging me to update it so I did but no improvement. It is now version 12.66
The individual programmers are TL866II-Plus Ver: 04.02.132
The PC recognises them as being connected. Used USBview.

I remember some time ago I had to reflash the programmers after upgrading the software but I can't remember how I did it.

Actually if I disconnect and reconnect the programmers multiple times the software eventually sees them, but if I run Tools / System Self check it comes up with VPP Testing... Write device error.

What should I do now?

Edit -> They *seem* to be running okay in Win7 in VirtualBox.

If you are trying all of them from one PC then I think the PC is the more likely suspect? Try another PC?

ChiCom form XGeu has history of "bricking" working products with a FW "upgrade"

Try to flash back one FW rev earlier.

As above, they work okay on Win7 in VirtualBox on the same PC, so the issue lies entirely with Linux.

Update -> tried it once again on Linux after doing 40 eproms on win7 and the darn things work just fine now...  :palm:  Previously when I ran I run Tools / System Self check it would come up with "VPP Testing... Write device error" but now it checks out okay.
