Let's talk about agm vs lead acid battery

(1/1)

Chriss:
Hi!
Toady I had a talk with a close friend of mine who bought an agm battery for his bike.
The battery arrived in two separated parts.
- the battery housing without the liquid in there
- a container with the acid liquid
When we read the user manual and done the things like it is in there we started to talking about what type of charger he need to buy.
And this is that interesting part for me too.

The agm battery is the same as the good old lead acid battery but the liquid is soaked up to something like toilet paper.

Everything else looks for me the same when I opened some of them to see what is in there.

Now, there is so many chargers out there and advices how to charge and maintain this type of battery does it really confuse.

In the user manual of this agm battery is written does the battery has to be charged with a max current of 10% of the capacity of the battery.
So, nothing new compared to the lead acid battery.
But these chargers for agm batteries are more expensive then the regular chargers.
Then we come across another charger who can charge agm and lead acid batteries but no one switch or any possibility to change from agm to lead acid or vs.
Just two LEE's on it and that's it. Charging-red, charged-green.

From my perspective of view this two type of batteries are the same. Just the liquid is not in a liquid form in the agm one.
But all the parameters are the same like on the lead acid one. And the charging technique is also the same.
All that fancy agm charging thinks are just marketing tricks.

We are also checked the charging system on the bike of my friends, just to see does there is anything different then on any other bike changing  system but we didn't recognized no difference.
It is a regular charging system with a regular alternator, diode bridge and a stabilizer. Everything is the same like on a regular car.

I have also to say does the bike was bought new several years ago and als with an agm type battery.

From my side this battery should also be chargedwith a charging current not over then 10-20% of his capacity and can be charged with a regular car battery charge who has a function to limit the current or an option for bike batteries.

What are you think about thesebatteries and maybe there is somebody who are in business with this batteries and can say something more or u documented...

Thank you.
