I am looking for single Li-Ion cells without any case or circuitry attached.
They are for a school project, so we just need like 5-10 pieces for a few prototypes.
If anyone knows a supplier please tell me. I checked all the usual electronic suppliers like Farnell, DigiKey, Mouser, etc. and also searched on Ebay without much success.
My backup plan is to use Li-Po batteries for RC models, but they are larger because they are built for much more output power than I need and size is important in this case.

Shipping for li-ions is a giant mess. Try to find a local supplier.

Try: http://eu.nkon.nl/ (http://eu.nkon.nl/) or https://www.akkuteile.de/ (https://www.akkuteile.de/)

Small RCs require small batteries, for example

Thank you, but they only have the cylindrical ones, I need the rectangular type.

I was talking about the discharge rate, at the same capacity but lower c-rating the battery can be smaller. I need at least 800mAh.

Thanks, they have what I need but I don't know about shipping cost yet. Their calculator doesn't work for me because our zip codes are only four digits.
This is what I am looking for:

Maybe someone knows an European supplier for it.

Hobbyking is good for lithium ion/polymer batteries. This (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct= 7649) one is almost identical to the other you posted, but there's no stock in the EU warehouse at the moment. I don't know what kind of specifications you have, or the reasons behind them – personally, I would prefer to have a battery with leads so I could swap it out if it failed.
Use the Hobbyking battery selection tool (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/lithium_polymer_battery_configuration.asp) to find a good one.
EDIT: This (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=38383) battery is similar in capacity to the one you posted, and there is stock in the EU warehouse. It is cylindrical, but it doesn't have a metal case so it is not particularly heavy.

Have you tried looking for "iPod/iPhone replacement battery"? Those are a single-cell li-po and a common size available.

I know Hobbyking and have ordered batteries for RC planes there before. If I can not order from batteryspace.com I will probably use this one:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__36036__Turnigy_1000mAh_1S_20C_Lipoly_Single_Cell_EU_warehouse_.html (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__36036__Turnigy_1000mAh_1S_20C_Lipoly_Single_Cell_EU_warehouse_.html)
The device will be about 70mm x 50mm and as thin as possible. So the battery should be as thin as possible. The battery from Hobbyking is 2mm thicker than the one from batteryspace.
It also can't be wider than about 40mm so it doesn't block the antenna. Cylindrical batteries are to thick, weight is not that important.
I will solder a PCB with protection and gauging circuitry directly to the tabs and connect it to the main PCB with a cable.

I did think about using phone batteries but I just don't like the thought of repurposing something for my final year project. I prefer to develop everything myself.
