"Light Multiplier" - "like joule thief" from 2009 -- can someone analyze?
(1/1)
Undweeber:
Can someone replicate and analyze what is happening here, why does this still feel like watching magic, the dude took a microwave fan coil, disassembled the core, took the remaining rod from the coil and ended up with an "air core" from what i understood it is wired like a joule thief, but i am not sure how it works without a core, and especially how it transfers energy to a spinning magnet and effectively powers extra 2 LED's..

would be nice if Dave replicated this and explained how "joule thief" works or if this video is related, I suspect it is the same sort of thing like that bateroo battery life extender sort of jazz, but this is just a speculation.

I wanted a rude username:
Why didn't he measure the actual power consumption, instead of just asserting that it's somehow only using as much as is required to light one LED? Seems pretty clear that the circuit is pushing a lot of current through that coil.

Also the fact that the LEDs in the receiver are surrounded by reflectors makes it more difficult to gauge their brightness by eye.
Undweeber:
im pretty sure those were directional 5mm LED's and the reflectors were just a gimmick like in many chinese toys, doing absolutely nothing when it came to light direction, so judging from that, id say they seem pretty bright
