im wondering if there is some conspiracy to stop us from constructing the perfect lamp https://www.digikey.com.au/product-detail/en/bridgelux/BXRC-56H10K0-D-74/BXRC-56H10K0-D-74-ND/7691106 the specs on this led are almost perfect , but there is a minimum order of 50 i have used the 90cri vero29 leds before and i like them but this is outrageous  |

There is one to prevent cheap 25W LED bulbs ! Walmart, Lowes, Meijers, and everywhere I went had 60w and 100w LED and 40w but no 25w anywhere, even though they are listed on the back of the Walmart LED packages and have an empty spot on the shelf. Even the "help line" says they don't exist so instead of 4 bulbs for 2 or 3 dollars, it's 3 bulbs for $10 or 4 times the price, still at about $2.50 each like the old bulbs. You might find some decorator types but not the bulbs that will work in a standard bathroom light fixture medium base E26 at 110v. They are even like that on Ebay. I've thought about getting a 40w or 60w bulb and putting a few extra diodes in series or replacing some LEDs with a string of normal diodes to reduce the light. I can't even find LED dimmers unless they are about $30. So for now I've got a few old incandescents in the bathroom, 2 40w instead of 4 25w. And they aren't as harsh as the LED bulbs. I've been waiting for 5 years and still no 25w LED bulbs......Back in my day........... |

Just typical business rather than a conspiracy. Digikey doesn't normally stock that item, so for any order they'll have to go to the manufacturer's distribution channels to get them. There's almost ALWAYS a minimum buy requirement at that level. Since Digikey currently doesn't want to stock it, you're stuck having to purchase the entire minimum buy. If and when there's more demand for it, Digikey would start stocking the item and allow individual piece-part purchases. |

Hi My understanding about LED lamps is that they use constant-current power supplies as the voltage drop across the lED is actually quite high. This means adding series diodes does nothing to the brightness. IKEA sells small desk lamps and other things that are low-brightness as LEDs go. We have some that are 80 lumens that we use as reading lamps. The bulbs are small, so you need a small socket for them. An alternative that fits standard lamp bases are those "vintage" look LED lamps. They have a very yellow light and are the same weight as an incandescent bulb, so work great in arm-style lamps. Yes, they are expensive but if you want a seriously "incandescent" feel, they are really nice. One nice thing about them is that their light distribution pattern is just like an incandescent, that light goes out in all directions and is not blocked by the usual large base, rather just the tiny standard lamp base. So, in an arm-light that has vents around the top, you get the same pattern of light on the ceiling as with an old bulb. In a bathroom vanity light strip, the glow is not so harsh but it might still be too bright for you. if you want to dim LEDs make a variable current clamp. |
