LM2587 from National - ebay fakes?
« on: March 23, 2023, 07:10:10 pm »
Boost converters are sold with the LM2587 from National for $2-3 on ebay. At Mouser, these chips from TI cost $10. Is that a ebay fake chip?

It may be a coincidence, but in a previous life that exact same component gave us a major headache.
After sending the component for a failure analysis, it was determined to be fake.
A thorough investigation revealed that our board assembler had purchased the chip from a Chinese broker.

I know, I know: advice from a web forum is not ironclad expert opinion. Therefore, and depending on the dollar amount of the purchase, and/or the liability you will face if the device fails, that the devices are sent to a third party lab for analysis. They can scan for evidence of blacktopping, leads wetting or corrosion, going even to decaping and micro-photographing the die. They can also check the packaging conditions.

Almost guaranteed.

The silkscreen on these:
- looks weird: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803474462595.html
- clearly sanded off: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832476995353.html

Its probably the same as the LM2596(?) where they are using an equivalent part from XLSemi

e-bay is not really a dependable source for components. We gotta buy at our own risk.

nuff said,  you pay for what you get

dont expect a 1-2$ part to be equivalent ?   unless some miracle happening ?

Aliexpress, Ebay  and others "cheap" priced sources ...

I am in Hong Kong, China. If you have a part you want to find, you can try to ask me to help you find it and sell it to you at the lowest price.
