Logic only PIR modules/assemblies?
« on: July 16, 2020, 06:14:54 am »
I've been experimenting with lighting motion sensors sending logic only signals back to a micro to control lights. I'm working up to a more polished and permanent house install, so I'm looking for typical ceiling recessed or surface mounted plastic units that you might buy from the hardware store.

They come in two usual varieties - mains powered and mains switching ones, and 12v units that switch a relay. While the form factor is fine, they both switch a power source using a relay. Neither of them are particularly cheap or low power, and ultimately I only need the logic signal.

I've been using some PIR modules that look like they could be the PCB from inside one of these plastic units. The benefit is that they are cheap and very low powered (quiescent power is 80µA @ 5V), but they are only the PCB and don't have the plastic assembly.

Has anyone seen where a suitable product can be found? Or maybe the plastic assemblies which you can glue a module into?

I'd just get a plate (plastic, stainless steel), (round or square) and cut a hole in it for the "football".
For in the wall/ceiling you really don't need a full enclosure.
If you really want an enclosure use a regular electric box.
