Hey guys,
I've been designing a system which uses 3mm THT bi-color LEDs, mounted on a wood control panel. Up until now I'd been planning on using 3-leg LEDs, to allow me to use a "traditional" LED matrix controller IC.
However, I didn't take into account the fact that on the 3-leg LEDs the outer pair of legs are wider than the LED body, which means I can't use "normal" mounting solutions to mount the LEDs on the control panel.
Essentially, I have one of three options:
1. Switch to 2-leg LEDs (reverse polarity for different colours)
2. Find a mounting solution for 3-leg 3mm LEDs
3. Switch to bi-color 3-pad SMD LEDs and find a way to mount them on the panel.
The questions I therefore have are as follows:
1. Are there any driver chips for 2-leg bi-color LEDs? I could drive them from shift registers, but I've got over 100 of them...
2. Are there any solutions for mounting 3-leg LEDs on a control panel?
Cheers in advance!
