Daisy chaining clock generator chips
« on: July 29, 2022, 04:51:58 pm »
Hi all,

I am looking at using a couple of AV9154A-04 clock generator chips in a project to generate a multitude of different frequencies needed for a few different components. Two of these chips will allow me to generate all of the required frequencies (CPU, timers, ethernet, CPLD clock) while also providing an ability to modify the clock towards the CPU itself to support different speed grades/overclocking (bonus feature).

Ive looked at a few different clock generators before coming across this one, and some of the others seem to support daisy chaining the 14.318MHz reference output from chip to chip - or at least they support the X1 pin being driven by an external oscillator rather than a crystal.

The datasheet for the AV9154 does not seem to indicate this is "supported" anywhere, but I am wondering whether it would still work anyway?

Thanks!
