Need sample csv file for arb func gen in my oscilloscope
« on: December 17, 2024, 06:42:58 pm »
Hi, everyone

A few weeks ago I bought a Rigol DHO924S oscilloscope.  My first impression is very favorable for the price, although the documentation could be much better.  I think I would highly recommend this instrument to a power supply designer such as myself.

The instrument includes a function generator with some built-in waveforms and an arbitrary waveform generator.  I could use that arbitrary generator in my present project, but I have so far been unable to get it to work.  I cannot be certain but I think that the 4 or 5 .csv files which I have loaded into the unit do not quite conform to its needs.   (??)  Something wrong with my .csv files but I do not know what is the problem.

Below I posted an image showing the oscilloscope's error message, and a zipped .csv file which was one of the several that I tried (all same result).  The .csv is small but I zipped it because this site would not accept a .csv file directly.

Can anyone respond by posting a (zipped) .csv file which should work in my oscilloscope arbitrary waveform generator?  I do not care about your waveform.  If I can start with a .csv file that works, I think I can edit it to get what I want.

Thanks!

Thank you very much!

But....unfortunately....that gives me the same result.

In what instrument/arb generator have you run this .csv file?  Maybe the instrument is different, or maybe I have some other problem...

I tried again with the labels etc edited out.  So...just the two columns of numbers.  Still...no worky...

BTW my first files had "seconds" (so generally decimal numbers) in the left hand column.  But later I tried no left hand column and also just integer counting: 1,2,3 as you did.  Still this thing is not cooperating.

This was created with EasyWaveX and successfully uploaded to two Siglent generators ... one stand alone and one built into a Siglent scope.  The plot was done with Excel.

Thanks again.  Yes I have been using Excel to produce and graph my .csv files.  I do have a help request in to Rigol so I guess I will probably need to wait for them to get back to me.  In the meantime I am testing ideas when I have them.

Last night I did a firmware upgrade on the oscilloscope.  It turned out that my USB hub does an unreliable job of transferring large files to my thumb drive.  The firmware upgrade did not work at first.  But then I erased the file and saved it again with the thumb drive plugged directly into my laptop.  Then it worked.  This surprised me as the file sizes had all agreed.  There must have been something corrupted when I used the USB hub.

I hope Rigol will help you.

I get nervous over firmware upgrades.  Once bricked twice shy :o  Even Dave Jones has trouble ... his last video shows an initial failure with upgrading firmware on a Keysight scope.

You might want to download EasyWaveX from Siglent.  It is free and might help your investigations (even with Rigol equipment since you can create CSV files and plot them in Excel).

I have an older Rigol DS1000Z.  So no direct help.

You might try capturing a signal with the scope and exporting it as a CSV file.
One would expect the scope could import the same format that it uses for export.

That csv doesn't seem to have the required headers as the docs specify, are you including those? (p 175 in the english manual defines the format)

Thanks a lot.

As for the header:

In the last few hours I realized I had missed some details in the manual.  There needs to be 8192 steps.  In my manual this is in page 191.  I think I had been doing a text search for csv and for some reason did not find this.  So I have tried some new files in my best attempt to follow this guidance.

BUT

I still cannot get it to work... :(

As for capturing a signal...that is an idea.  But from what I read now it would appear that would probably not work.  Needs to be 8192 points!!  That is 2^13.  A fixed number of points makes some sense but 2^13 seems odd.  I can work with that...if it works but so far I cannot.

I have not exported a signal up to this point; only oscilloscope images.  I have not gotten the USB software to work so far.  I have been mainly interested in getting scope face images.  I get those via Ethernet crossover cable so that has not been an issue for me.
