Title: Looking for good references on building SDR?
Post by: rwgast_lowlevellogicdesin on July 20, 2015, 06:26:56 pm
I have been thinking about building my own simple SDR to start with, I have found some project using an arduino, it has alot of code but not alot of explanation. Where I am really getting hungup is bandwidth and tuning. I know alot of SDRs use front end tuner chips, but some do not. For example there is a project post about using the 8 core propeller counters to tune in AM radio. Is that what things like the HackRF etc are doing? Im also wondering how you get any decent bandwidth to the PC if you choose a micro with out HighSpeed USB, is there any kind of parrallel bus to USB interface or something that can pull the 480mbits of high speed usb?

If anyone knows of any sites that step through a lot of SDR hardware concepts whether they be USB or audio card based id appreciate it. Ive been looking and most stuff is just code and schematics.

I would love to use one of those new parallela boards to implement a broadband portable SDR with LCD... but thats kind of a pipe dream im really just looking to figure out how to maybe build a VLF to 25mhz USB based radio.
