Looking for li-ion charger ic with over discharge protection
« on: April 27, 2019, 01:13:20 am »
Hi guys,
I am looking for single cell li-ion charger ic with over discharge protection for my project. I would like to avoid using 2 separate ICs for this.

I was able to find some ICs that have both functions(for example STNS01), but they are way too expensive and have many features that I don't need. I really only care for the charging and protection. Ideally, the cost shouldn't exceed ~1USD.

Any ideas?

You might look at the LTC4054.  It may be over your budget, but I think it provides charging and over-discharge protection.

you might want to look at the chinese go to chip: DW01  :-DD
here is a link to the datasheet: https://cdn.sparkfun.com/assets/learn_tutorials/2/5/1/DW01-P_DataSheet_V10.pdf
you just need to add an additional duel fet in order to allow the IC to disconnect the battery in fault conditions.

Edit: you can buy 20 of them for 1$ on aliexpress:

Unfortunately, LTC4054 is only a charger and DW01 is only a protection circuit. I am looking for combination of both to save on part count, space and complexity.

did you look at the data sheet for the DW01?
It both provides charging cut off (4.25V) and all sorts of protection ... you seriously can't get much better than that. there's a reason all chinese products use it.
