sometimes I don't want to trim the leads of the parts but I want to use a breadboard.
is there a breadboard with holes in it so you can push down parts so you just get a bunch of stubs. it would stand on posts

Aren't the typical n*(5+5) pin plastic breadboard modules
all
open at the bottom, until the manufacturer mounts them on a baseplate or sticks on some padded adhesive tape?

No, because the contact spring strips have closed bottoms. Without the tape/foam, a too long component lead can push the contact strip out of its slot.
