Title: looking for special handheld case
Post by: konfu on April 04, 2013, 08:04:04 pm
Hi folks,

I am designing a small gps tracker with wireless location transmission to a receiver. Therefore I am now looking for a nice case.

I need a case that is as rugged as possible while being small and allow for one or two AA batteries to be put in. The device should be worn at a jacked or belt so there is some "Line of sight" to the sky for GPS signals to pass. Just like a walkie-talkie, pager, mobile phone or similar.

Ideally I am looking for something like a pager case that is some kind of waterproof so that rain won't kill the device. It doesn't need to survive a bath or so. The device needs to be made of plastic as I will place a GPS receiver inside. some small antenna will be placed outside the case using a RP-SMA connectors or so.

So my requirements:
- small
- 1 or 2 AA batteries
- waterproof or water-resistant
- rugged
- made of plastic
- size: width and heigth of an AA battery I don't need much parts on the PCB
- no need for a display, maybe just a small LED and maybe an on/off switch or momentary switch for latching
- place to drill a hole for a RP-SMA antenna connector
- should be available inside the EU in smaller quantities (sub 100 units)
- nice look. Shouldn't be a grey squared plastic box. Should be some kind of "fancy/technical" looking like the picture below. ;-)

For my prototype I used this case Pactec PPL-2AA (http://www.pactecenclosures.com/product-detail.php?classid=27&seriesid=58&productid=196). But it's too big, not really comfortable with water and just looks ugly. ;-)

Basically I am looking for a case like this:

I am open for any suggestions.
