| Looking forsingle chip USB flash memory device for embedded use - does it exist? |
| (1/1) |
| wb0gaz:
My current project design includes an embedded USB hub (Terminus Technology FE1.1s) and I would like to include a small flash memory device on one of the downstream ports of the hub (so when attaching my device to a PC, the PC will first see the hub, then attached to the hub see the USB flash memory as well as other USB peripherals in my design.) No particular integration is needed, just something equivalent to a thumb drive plugged into a USB hub. USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 is preferred (I've got no need for USB 3 in this project.) I began searching for a single-chip USB flash memory device and didn't find anything. I'd like to work at the chip level rather than attaching a USB flash memory module (those do exist) as they are much larger than I have room for. Any recommendations? If not a single-chip solution, suggestion for a multi-chip solution that would accomplish the same thing (with the caveat that this is a home project, so I need package(s) I can solder by hand, such as TSSOP, LQFP, etc.) Thank you for any advice |

OK - search for "embedded usb drive module" takes me to this: https://swissbit.com/products/nand-flash-products/usb-products/usb-modules/ which is a module (as searched for), but the module appears to have a single LQFP-package IC on it (I can't see the reverse side of the module as shown.) Such a type of chip (as what is on the pictured module) is what I am looking for (I don't want to use a module as this isn't going into a PC, it is going into a PC board itself.) Has anyone run into such a chip or could help me refine my search? Thank you! |

I have a few USB drives where the active part is a single chip with pads designed to mate up to the USB connector. Not sure how to find that kind for sale but super compact drives are a good start. |

NiHaoMike - Do you know what these devices - single IC usb drive with contacts attached - are called or where to source (I've not seen them offered, but if all else fails they'd be an alternative, if small enough.) Also, can you see identifying marks on the IC of your modules? Such an IC is what I'm looking for, just can't get a toehold in identification/search yet. Thanks! |
