Wondering who can build hobby projects for me
« on: February 15, 2021, 09:59:31 pm »
Hello,

Who would I ask to build a hobby project for me It's fairly simple, all analog parts, but I am currently disabled to the extent that it is a lot of effort for me.

Is there some kind of brick and mortar outlet that I'd talk to about this?

Thank you.

Sure.  What are you willing to pay per hour?

1) There are assembly houses.  Check with those companies.
2) If you want an individual, I suspect at least $100 USD per hour, probably twice that.  Particularly, if you don't provide materials, a usable BOM, etc.

In other words, an individual will work for total time. An established vendor will require that you do all that preliminary legwork with a minimum number of parts.

Some PCB manufacturers like JLCPCB offer assembly services, you can get a quote right from the web site.

Awesome, assembly houses, that's the term I was looking for.

Thank you jpanhalt and NiHaoMike.

Your post is a little short on details. Are you talking about one-off projects or quantities ?  Assembly houses aren't cheap, especially for small quantities since much of the cost is in the setup.
I would offer to help but I'm in Toronto (suburb) and if you're in the U.S. then it wouldn't be cost effective due to shipping and possible duty hassles.

Maybe someone will step up if you give more details about the projects and your expectations.

Thank you jpanhalt and NiHaoMike.

It's not clear what you have in mind by building a project. Assembly houses are normally associated with PCB fabs and you would have to provide them CAM data from your design using CAD programs for them make the PCB and then assemble components on it. Small runs are expensive (though reduced by intro offers).

You sound like looking for somebody to build a one-off circuit. Maybe you can find a helpful hobbyist in your vicinity.

Yeah, a lot of missing info here.

Do you want somebody to solder some parts on a perf board?
Do you have a complete PCB design?
Do you want somebody to build an enclosure, install controls and wire them?

Is the point to have a specific circuit you designed built?
Or is it a specific goal like, "I need a thing that generates a 5 second pulse and I don't care how you build it."

Contracting somebody with a inexactly described project will cost you a lot of money.
It's also the hassle of getting all the parts together, doing it and shipping it back.

If I were your friend and right there and you had the parts and it was only soldering I'd do it for a beer.
