repair of a Sony SCD XE670 SACD player [Solved]
« on: October 18, 2018, 10:05:46 am »
Hi all,

just to document the successful repair of my Sony Super Audio CD player.
It had developed a problem reading discs till the point where it would never read a disc at all.

Looking on the internet I found it was a typical problem for earlier Sony SACD players, these lasers would just die quite soon.

Anyway, long story short: I replaced the laser and now it is up-and-running again.
The new laser and transport was a fully compatible drop-in replacement, so replacing it was about an hour work.

One thing to pay attention to: The new laser arrived with four contacts soldered together as an ESD protection,.
This little blob of solder -next to the connector- needs to be removed before mounting the laser.

I bought my laser at this Chinese AliEXpress store during a sale, so I got it perfectly packed safe-and-sound at my home for only € 24,- !!

AliExpress store:  https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/c93YTFc5
I do not have any link with this seller, just a good experience.

Here some pictures.

Un saludo,

Leo

You need a scope to repair a scope, and you need many multimeters to repair another multimeter!

Good work.
I am jealous of your SACD copy of DSoTM. I had put this and a few other classic rock titles on my gift wish lists for years, and my DW never took the hint. By the time I gave up and went shopping for them myself, they were out of print and prices were obscene.
