Electrical etching concept...what is it?
« on: May 14, 2013, 10:33:14 pm »
Hi guys,

I want to make my own electro etching to make marks and logos on metal stuff.

I have seen some commercial products, but I can not afford to buy :D So I want to create my own. Can someone pleae tell me the logic, and what would I need?

I have seen they use AC first then DC...can't it be done with DC only? I have also seen some videos on youtube people do it with a 9V DC wall adapter....but commercial products are for example 20 volt 10 amps...eny explanation?

A commercial one is here: http://www.etch-o-matic.com/knifemaker.htm

Thanks!

Look up EDM.
Cryptocurrency has taught me to love math and at the same time be baffled by it.

Cryptocurrency lesson 0: Altcoins and Bitcoin are not the same thing.

I don't think he's talking about edm, I think he's talking about electro chem etch.

I'd say that's a very reasonable price for the machine, solution and stencil paper.

Chemical etching is easy, you just need a carbon pad, a stencil and a conductive electrolyte, either KOH or Naoh, NaCl or even acetic acid, and a power source. Works well on most metals except aluminium, where you will need the KOH to strip the anodising off it.
