MCP73123 & TPS61200 shutdown problem
« on: February 07, 2019, 01:30:49 am »
Hi everyone I'm having a problem with a generic implementation of the MCP73123 usb charging IC which feeds to a LifePo4 battery and provides 3.2v-2.6v to a TPS61200 boost converter IC outputting 5v. Both IC's are laid out according to their datasheets and work fine in every way, except once I connect and disconnect a usb charger the boost converter shuts down. Short of adding a p-mosfet to disconnect the power going to the boost IC while the usb charger is connected (gate to usb 5v, also to 10k pull down resistor), what can be done? Ideas are most welcome, TIA.

Post a circuit please, this looks like a case of a bad connection. Do you have to separate the ICs during charging and discharging?
Hi all!

Hi nsrmagazin, thanks for your reply. I broke down and built a pnp circuit (didn't have p-mosfets on hand) and it's working perfectly now. It's late here, but tomorrow I'll post the circuit in hope there's a simpler solution.

Here are the schematics for the two circuits, I look forward to your reply.
