Mechanical - low pressure non return valves?
« on: November 06, 2019, 01:04:37 pm »
This is a mechanical quest but I'm sure many here will have some ideas.

I'm looking for a low flow check valve or non return valve - something like the ones used on fish tanks and aquariums.

The things I need are:

1) lowest practical operating pressure <20mmH2O would be nice.
2) The maximum back pressure would be around 5mH20 (0.5 Bar / 50kPa )
3) Very low back flow leakage - the ones I've tested leak down quickly when they only have low back pressure applied.
4) simple push on barb or tapered fittings for 4mm or smaller plastic tubing.
5) Cheap!

I've tried ones like in the picture below but they reverse leak badly at low pressures.

Any ideas where I might find something?

Yes they make some nice gear. Expensive though. I think I need to find something made in very high volume to get it cheaply.

See if you can find a distributor specialising in accessories or consumables for use with chromatography equipment in chem labs. They might have something a little better than the aquarium types, but still affordable.

Thanks, good idea. I'll check out some of the scientific suppliers.

I stumbled across Luer lock valves last night. I might sample one of those as they look promising.
