Mechanical Respirator
(1/1)
Angel Maboni:
Hello, this is my first post here, so sorry if i dont follow a rule or something like that. I have a question. Recently i saw that Medtronic liberated the Puritan Benett 560 schemes, and i need help with it. I'm from Argentina and since all this things with COVID-19, i dont have any classes. I'm studying electronics and am currently in my last year. As a kind of "homework" my teacher gave us the mission to create from zero a mechanical respirator, i have to do a report of how i designed it,i have to put all the schemes and circuits, and all that. I downloaded all the RAR files from Medtronic page, and i gave them a look , but i dont know what could i extract from there, my goal with the ventilator is to control the oxygen flow, and one or two of that things that get in the screen. If you know anything that could help me, i'll aprecciate it a lot. Thanks and sorry for my typos.

I would say you first need to identify what needs to be monitored and adjusted, as well as triggers.

A mechanical ventilator is more than just pushing air. The ventilator has to "breathe" based on when the patient is breathing, so you need some way to sense when the patient is at least trying to take a breath. There is actually a lot that goes into the professional models, but since this is just an "assignment", I would say take the key features you need to monitor/trigger/control and build out from there.

Professional models also humidify the air. So depending on how far you want to go, you need to monitor the humidity and have a mechanism for adjusting it.

This could easily be done with an Arduino, probably use a MEGA.

Start with your sensors, then work out from there.

Thanks!! I 'll start with that.  ^-^
