What is this IC? NEC 1299 662
« on: April 02, 2023, 09:14:44 am »
As per the title, is anyone better at using search engines than me? I can’t find anything on the NEC 1299 662 IC, shown in the attached pic. It’s on a board in the faceplate of a Becker CDR-220 car radio/CD player. I have a thread in the repair forum on this; the LCD is not displaying.

Any clues on this NEC thing? Thanks. If so, where did you look?

I have no idea, but just a hunch that's the date code you have there. The part ID may be the 0128K3006.

You might be right about that Sir. The radio would have been made in 2001.

I’ve searched for every combo of the numbers on the chip. Blank. How strange. This is the first time I’ve been stumped.

If it was made in 2001, then 0128 could also be the date code (28th week of 2001).

Maybe I should ask, ‘What’s the date code on this chip?’ and someone will tell me what it is instead. Ha! 😄

Fortunately, uPD754302 leads us to https://datasheetspdf.com/pdf/298543/NEC/UPD754302/1

Ironically, '302 is the one that isn't recommended for automotive, while  '304 is the one recommended for automotive applications. It's a 4-bit MCU with very interesting register names: XA, BC, DE, HL...

Thanks amyk. I’ll have a think about what this might be for. It could be used to store the model of the car, which is displayed for a few seconds after turning the Becker unit on.

I’ll guess that you used one of the usual search engines. Your results make me wonder about the extent to which people in different parts of the world are shown different things.
