pictures of static charge distribution on insulators ?
« on: April 23, 2015, 07:26:28 pm »
Does anyone have an example of some pictures that show static charge distribution along insulators?

The idea being similar to showing current in a ground plane (as shown by mikes electric stuff), that is in this case to connect a surface electrostatic voltmeter to a light source, so the brightness of the bulb changes based on charge magnitude (and diff color for opposite polarity), and then to use a long exposure.

(or just take measurements at every point and simulate it with software zzz)

this is related to my other thread

But anyway, pictures of actual professionally done mappings would be cool to see.

I don't know, but dust seems to do a decent job inside old TVs.

I think mappings, for example in vacuum tubes, were done by some weird mechanical computing process.

I saw a video, I'll try to find it. It was like this table full of pegs or something.

I'm more interested to actually see it how it is, for curiosity purposes. It might be beautiful/trippy.  O0
