Hi all,
Sorry I'm fairly new here and not sure if there's a better forum for parts-and-purchasing related discussion. I didn't think it quite fit in as manufacturing...
Anyway, I noticed today that a whole slew of Toshiba power MOSFETs have approximately doubled in price compared with the last time I checked (a couple months ago) from Digikey, Mouser, etc. By comparison, similar MOSFETs from manufacturers like TI, Diodes Inc, Nexperia, etc. have either stayed the same or dropped by a small percentage, so it doesn't seem to be caused by something like a global demand surge or inflation. I know that component price swings are common in the electronics industry but doubling in a few months for commodity parts seems unusual.
Has something been happening recently at Toshiba Semiconductor and Storage that's causing a disruption for them? Were they hit harder than everyone else by COVID shutdowns or something? Does anyone here have access to a price history tool that can verify this?
For example (numbers are for 1000 pc quantities), TPN2R903PL and TPN7R006PL both used to be $0.15167 at Digikey and now they're $0.304; TPH1R204PB used to be $0.31287 and now it's $0.60175, and so on.
