I've been posting pictures on another forum with some info on my 100 watt led flashlight build, I'm using a 1967 105 mm howitzer shell as the case.

Cool build. I have a half completed one myself. Have you gave dimming circuit any thought? Also have you seen these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/221952988382 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/221952988382) Liable to catch fire the first time you use it thoug :P

Often plugging the description of these cheap Chinese DC-DC converters into google will yield a video review. Also pay attention to the size, if it's really tiny, it's certain to not be capable of the claimed output.

I have a 100 watt one, and a 400 watt digital I might use. might see if I can get a analog 400 watt one,

That heatsink look rather small, what are the temps?
-
which heatsink?

8000LM, nice! Using the shell case is a bonus. Post some pictures of it once it's done.

its a cheap Chinese led so actual lumen output is unsure :)
I dont know why I picked a shell as the case but eh, It wasnt super expensive, $50 for a 1967 howitzer shell.. wanted brass but this one is steel, I can deal with it :) gonna use all flat head screws when I get some, I had some hex head ones lying around that I'm using for setup.

the led your mounted on the heatsink, the heatsink looks rather small for such a high power led
I've seen someone using cpu copper pipe heatsink as a heatsink for the led.

its actually pretty large, and has quite a bit of heft to it. plus there will be forced air across it and the driver.

All I did was use the Intel heatsink and a 6W LED lamp, and then repurposed a wooden bedside lamp as a base for the shell. Could do with a polish, but the patina and the gun barrel markings look nice though, and it is a nice room light as is.

I just posted 3 more photos on that forum if anyone wants to see. tiny bit more progress :) need to test the 400 watt controller to see if it comes back on at the settings that were used last..
then I can go and start assembling it perhaps.
