Wanted: low-cost, low-profile, automotive wire-to-board IMS connector

Hey,

Currently I am working on an automotive camera systems that will use LED's to illuminate the road in certain conditions.
To do this I am using some high power IRLED's mounted on a IMS PCB (so only one layer of copper to mount stuff on). Because this board need to be connected to the driver circuitry that is mounted on a separate regular FR4 board that is mounted a few cm's away I am looking for a cheap, low-profile and shake proof wire-to-board system to connect both boards together.

I want it to be as low-profile as possible because the LED's are only 2.4mm in height. Anyone has a good suggestion?

We also do camera designs, but if we can not find connectors available - we have to do our own.

if you want to seal it up with any type of compound, you might as well not use a connector at all. A connector is used for easy service/manufacturing. Any kind of sealing compound, will make it impossible to disconnect it, making service almost impossible. run the wire directly into the passenger compartment and connect it there. alternatively there are several types of automotive connectors that are sealed or water resistant. even a standard utility trailer connector would work. but if you want to service it, don't glue it together.

And OEM will agree on this? The process and testing of this sealing technique will cost a lot. You should talk to OEM closely on connector selection. You should also ask if they have their own connectors, so you could use their proprietary ones.
Going without a connector isn't an idea, because it will make manufacturing process on an assembly line too difficult.

That doesn't need to be the case. There are also systems where you can solder a bunch of wires crimped into pins into a PCB.
