Title: Navigation Button Solution
Post by: Xenos on March 23, 2022, 10:46:45 pm
I am looking for a source for a three-button navigation module, as shown in the picture. Using my Google-foo, I have found multiple manufacturers of five-button solutions, but only one that makes a three-button model. Has anyone come across another three-button solution?

The one you linked: https://www.shanpu.com.tw/en/product/series/SNA3 (https://www.shanpu.com.tw/en/product/series/SNA3)
What about just using 4 way and having left/right do nothing?

It looks like these are modular, you could not install the left and right ones: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/4way-navigational-LED-Push-Button-Switch_60754607671.html (https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/4way-navigational-LED-Push-Button-Switch_60754607671.html)

I thought about getting a 4-way and not using the side buttons, but I like the aesthetics of the 3-way. I also thought about using Apem triangular and round button caps to from their mec series, but I don't have a cnc mill to carve the holes. Decisions, decisions.

Boy do I hate "5 way" switches> They are designed for people with teeny tiny thumbs.
I do Bluetooth. I just made a clicker using a stock plastic enclosure from Serpac.

You could also consider one with a central pushbutton and a rotary encoder. You get the same functionality, with more "efficient" navigation.

The five-button size issue is spot on to my concern. I could see myself, or other users, fat-fingering the input. It's ironic; I initially thought of using a rotary encoder and ordered a bunch of Bourns ECW1Ds. I like the idea of the encoder with a large diameter flat knob that has a fingertip indentation. Thanks to you all for the feedback.

What about these directional switches?
