| Need 2p connector with switch contacts |
| (1/1) |
| iXod:
I have a project to add a footswitch to a machine. The connector for the footswitch needs to disconnect the normal front-panel switch and also switch another separate circuit. So a 2-pole plug and a 2-pole jack that can switch 2 circuits. 1 circuit can be one of the plug’s poles. The other switch circuit needs to be isolated. Both circuits are 24vdc, low mA circuits. What comes to mind is a 1/4” audio headphone jack that switches the audio normally going to a speaker. But not a 1/4” audio jack. (c; Suggestions? Thanks. |

Can you use a 4 pole plug, with two poles for the footswitch and the other two shorted together? Then the shorted contacts can operate a relay inside the machine and switch whatever you like. |

OK, thank you for that suggestion. I'll go with it. 4-pole, 2 dedicated to switching a relay. Any recommendations for a 4-pin plug that isn't a threaded (MIL-type) connector? I keep going back to the 1/4" phono plug because it goes in deep and won't fall out and it's not a screw-in type. Of course this plug won't work here, but any such alternatives that are "deep" (actually go past the panel in this fashion)? Thanks. |

What you got against the common ole garden jack plug? For years they were used to shove more than 24v and a few mill amps up speakers. There are 4 pole variants (nato 671),if however both foot switches could share a common wire you could get away with the more standard 3pole device. |

I'm a fan of these Mini XLRs. I'm not sure they'd be the best idea for a footswitch though. What happens if (when) the user accidentally treads on the cable? I think the common jack plug might handle this better. Do you need all 4 poles? If one side of the switch is grounded or powered, maybe you can combine it with one of the relay poles and get away with only 3. |
