Hi!

I am working on building a musical instrument based around a DSP board hooked up to a BeagleBoneBlack, and I would really like it to have a 3"-5" OLED display. Since other aspects of the project are already challenging enough I want the display part to be close to plug and play, but I wouldn't be opposed to a little bit of coding and/or soldering if needed. I know there's a bunch of options for TFT screens in this size, but on an instrument I feel they would look crappy and unprofessional. Most instruments I know of have OLED displays, I reckon they are easier to look at from a distance under stage lights as well.

So.. of course I want the two opposites, I want it to be easy and cheap, and also be the fancy thing that's explicitly not supported by manufacturers of both the SoC's and these displays in general, typical..

On alibaba I found boards like this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/lcd-monitor-power-circuit-panel-Driver_60839774148.html?spm=a2700.7724857.normalList.16.1d846d56U7aKat&s=p

And sets like this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/H381DLN01-2-3-8-inch-OLED_62000150595.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.201.7d587754rVHnmM

And sets like these which are really cool but a bit expensive: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/3-81-inch-1080x1200-hdmi-to_62018035662.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.64.17166a303eYxBX

There's also a bunch of 5"+ OLED and AMOLED displays which are a bit too big for my tastes, but they've got little video demo's with them proving they're good and they're not expensive either. I bet if I looked harder I could find smaller displays.

So, my question is: anyone have experience with building with these things? Anything I should look out for? I'm not 100% certain on the HDMI -> MIPI path, if you've got another solution I'm open too it. Besides the 3"-5" size, the resolution can be as low as 320x240 and the framerate as low as 3-5FPS. Maybe that opens up some other possibilities.

Thanks!
