Title: Need datasheet for Philips XQ5002 Plumbicon camera tube
Post by: Dave92F1 on September 03, 2022, 06:46:14 pm
I want to experiment with it (electrostatic deflection - very unusual); I bought one NOS from eBay, but don't have the pinout!

Anybody have a pinout, or know where I can find it?

It's a design from ~1990, and remained in the Dunlee product book (seems to be Philips's camera tube group) thru at least 2010.

I have two (almost identical) versions of the attached datasheet, but NEITHER GIVE THE PINOUT!

Suggestions (like how to puzzle it out myself) requested!

(Any thoughts on suitable off-the-shelf HV amplifiers I could use to deflect the beam from a 12 bit DAC are welcome too.)

I have never tried this but -
An ohm meter can help identify the heater pins.
A capacitance meter may help to determine which grid is closest to the cathode. Then you could identify the other grids in turn. The highest cap between pins are the grids right next to each other.

Find a schematic to ANY OTHER Philips camera tube. The pinout may be close or give you hints about how Philips does it.
Good Luck!

There was an 800 number on the last page of the datasheet.

You may be able to visually trace the pin connection to the grids. The first grid is nearest the pins.

The XQ1072, XQ1412, XQ1570, XQ2172, and the XQ7002 camera tube all have the same pinout. I did not see any deviation.

The XQ7002 datasheet is attached.

I got these data sheets from the web archive.

Plumbicon 101XQ Video Camera Tube. Electrostatic deflection for improved corner resolution, diode gun, low output capacitancea Plumbicon XQ5002 imager tube can reproduce an image with four times the number of resolvable elements achieved previously, and when used with an associated low noise amplifier the camera produces its video output signal with a signal to noise ratio of 60 dB. Alternative Part Number   1420107

Narragansett Imaging is the only company now making Plumbicons, and it does so from the factories Philips built for that purpose in Rhode Island, USA.

Good Luck!

Looks like this company ended up with the camera tube production and support. They may have the old files.

Great find! They even have a page for my tube: http://naimaging.com/medical/product/xq-5002v/ (http://naimaging.com/medical/product/xq-5002v/)

I'll call them on Monday.

Google lists them as “permanently closed” and there’s no website, so I’m pretty sure they’re not in business anymore.

Their web page is still up; no harm in trying the 800 number.

No it isn’t. The Narragansett Imaging website was www.nimaging.com (http://www.nimaging.com), and it’s been offline for many years according to the Wayback Machine.

www.naimaging.com is a different company in California.
