Need help identifying appropriate connector for FPC (BlackBerry trackpad)
(1/1)
v01d:
Hi,
I want to design a PCB which will interface to a BlackBerry trackpad sensor. Particularly, I'm using a BlackBerry 9800 sensor. I also have a BB 9900 sensor which I think has the same pinout but different pitch. There are previous sensors which use other kind of connector but I would like to interface with the 9800 at least for now. I need the appropriate SMT connector for my PCB but I don't know how to find the relevant part. Moreover, I don't know if it is a custom-made BB connector (do smartphone manufacturers do this?) or if it should be some standard connector. Ideally, I want to buy it from a reputable source such as digikey.
The trackpads look like this:
Close up pictures of 9800 (left) and 9900 (right) are here:
Last one has a caliper in the picture (each tick, 1mm) so I'm guessing it is about 0.4mm pitch (13 contacts).
This is what the connector looks like:
Alternatively, I could try to design a PCB footprint so that I could directly solder the flex PCB to my PCB, however I'm not sure if it would be feasible. Maybe I can presolder the tabs over the holes and my PCB's footprint and then melt them together?
Thank you!!
