5V from 5V USB using tps63002drct
« on: May 30, 2020, 09:01:13 am »
I came across the TPS63002 from TI and thought I would add one to my latest gadget which requires a nice and stable 5V at up to 300mA

I designed the circuit using WebBench and opted for a rather small inductor MLP2012V2R2MT but theoretically it should work.

My layout isn't great but not terrible but I am having issues getting it working at all (took 5 attempts at soldering the QFN until I got a combo that worked... not sure if it is the assembly or the design with the problem) and now I am getting one output on one board the regulation is terrible (4.9 to 5.2 under differing loads)

I tried adding some output capacitance but it didn't seem to change anything.

So... Anyone had any experience with TPS63002? Should I seek an alternative... or possibly just let the USB source (PC) do the regulation?

Thanks in advance
