Need help with identification
« on: May 21, 2022, 04:15:09 am »
I recently purchased a Texas Instruments Extensa 650CD. I was told there was no hdd. What I didn't realize is, Acer, who actually designed and manufactured it, used a caddy and this is the connector between the 2.5" IDE 44pin HD, and the computer.
I've found all the technical specs and diagrams. (Thank you TI.) So if I can find the female connector, I can pin this out and make an adapter.
Unfortunately, I have been searching for hours and can't find anything that looks anything like this. Any help/suggestions appreciated.

In your picture I can just see the letters “HRS” on the front right face of ten connector. As I suspected when I first saw it, this is a Hirose branded connector and may still be in production.

Xx range look similar but I suspect is the modern version with different pitch and dimensions. You will just need to hunt through the various Hirose multi pin connectors found with Google. That is what I do.

looks a lot like https://docs.rs-online.com/186e/0900766b80e6dc32.pdf

like an old school SCIS 40 pin male connector or a mini-Centronics 40.

hard to judge scale from your picture.

cheap laptop makers of the 20th century loved to repurpose connectors to fit their needs.

I think the TI 650cd also shared some parts with a number of laptops sold under the NCR brand, but I will not swear to it.

I find it funny. Looking at the specs sheet, and taking a micrometer to this, this does look correct, however, I have no clue how you got there. It says RCT-6A24 on the top. As low res as that picture was, how you noticed the HRS logo is beyond me. Thank you so much. I had to get a magnifying glass to see it. Great catch. The RCT was completely throwing me off.
Now that I have the right thing, I'll hopefully find a 40 pin female connector. I see exactly what I want on that spec sheet. So I can search for it. Again, I am just beyond shocked you found that. Thank you.

No worries. Pleased to assist.

I am used to looking for connector ID’s and know where to look on the part. The brain is good at interpreting partial characters when you are used to various makers marks  :) Finding the exact connector series took more effort as I had to look through several hundred HRS connectors via Google searches.
