Hello Group,
Can someone make a recommendation for the best Goop to Buy on Digikey for strain relief and tacking down big capacitors on a PCB?
The epoxy potting compound I bought is too thin and runny to be useful. Of course it should be non-corrosive, so plain silicone is bad, right?
The search tool doesn't reveal any solutions.
Regards,
Tom

Home Depot or Lowes GE silicone II, way cheaper and just as effective as anything from the electronic supply houses.
It must be a neutral cure silicone or it will cause corrosion of most exposed metal surfaces on electronics
From the GE site:
GE Silicone II* caulk is what's called a "neutral cure" silicone, which means no acids are released during the curing process (as there are in GE Silicone I*). This enables GE Silicone II* to adhere to a broader range of substrates such as plastics, concrete, and metals. Also, the odor of a neutral cure silicone such as GE Silicone II* is much less offensive than an acid or acetoxy cure silicone such as GE Silicone I*.
Silicone is tough to beat as an long term adhesive and its resiliency enables it to endure shock loadings better than just about any adhesive.

robrenz,
Kitchen and Bath Silicone II sound like it will work perfect.
Thanks for the tip.

I used to use a blob of very thick cyanacuralate glue as a hold down to boards for capacitors, along with a lacing cord as originally used.

for strain relieving cables I use liquid electrical tape over silicone, no particular reason as to why though *shrugs*
